PROMOTE THE INTEGRATION OF ROADMAPS WITHIN SYNERGETIC COMMUNITIES

There is a call for a shift in focus towards industry competencies: rather than solely highlighting the equipment needed for future accelerator infrastructures, upgrades and research and development projects in the accelerator field,  the emphasis is placed on understanding the competencies required to provide such equipment and R&D, not only in the Accelerator field, but in Big Science areas with related technological needs in general. This approach aims to attract a wider range of companies and enlarge business opportunities, expanding the pool of potential suppliers, industry collaboration at early stages of the research and, most important, seeking standardization and market widening in the Big science community in general.

Present status

Coordination with industry roadmaps in other Big Science fields
Setting contacts with research communities such as Synchrotron, Light Sources, Fusion or Space is an aspiration for AIPF. Coordination with these Big Science fields on industrial R&D and supply can represent a strong added value. AIPF might guarantee that any proposal on Accelerator Science and Technology is coherent and, if possible, encompass the R&D needs in accelerator related technologies of the other relevant communities.

Finding common ground to maximize effectiveness and R&D funding
Rather for companies to invest in relations and opportunity assessments on institutes individually, it is believed to be more efficient to translate the scientific challenges and goals of each individual institute into competence and activity sets as recognized by companies. The cells in this matrix can furthermore be specified into EU-strategic or non-EU-strategic. Finding common ground (in the language of the EU industry) between the institutes as depicted here below. We believe this will help companies significantly to focus on their core and future-core.
As a consequence, once these common grounds have been identified, the case to increase / ease the effort to receive EU R&D funding improves significantly. We have established a link between individual scientific goals and challenges of institutes and a common / strategic industry focus areas.

Enhancing Industry Representation
It is confirmed that there is a need to strengthen industry representation in strategic planning processes. AIPF believes that industry should not only be included as members of the Industrial Advisory Committees but also as members of the strategic boards or teams during the preparation of proposals for EC calls and funds designated to support collaboration between RIs and Industry, prior to proposal submission.
