INDUSTRY INVOLMENT ON R&D FUNDING PROGRAMS

There is a need to strengthen industry representation in strategic planning processes. AIPF believes that the industry should not only be included as members of the Industrial Advisory Committees but also as members of the strategic boards or teams during the preparation of proposals for EC calls and funds allocated to support collaboration between RIs and Industry, prior to proposal submission.

Present status

Innovation power in Europe is key in order to stay competitive globally and to sustain the science funding. The time of science-related new technology is being applied in new applications we consider too long at the moment. In order to accelerate the “science to market” process, not only roadmaps are to be aligned, but also for these (overlapping) interests to be executed in concrete research programs. Afterall, only when science topics are being linked to (future) industrial technology programs we are able to push innovation. Science goals will be met more effectively, while industry is able to mine the technology developed from it significantly faster and to apply this in innovative products. Create win-win and, thus forge the much needed partnership between institutions and industry.

If we are able to link science to technology topics relevant to industry we increase innovation speed. Therefor it is of key importance that R&D funding is applied to specifically these overlapping areas. This type of R&D funding focuses at win-wins only. Effective use of public money by serving both interests at once.

AIPF will seek to find mechanisms via funding agencies and/or in the frame of research project to develop programs directly targeted to fund R&D led and developed  by the industry, to close the gap with other world regions more advanced in these funding approaches. This is a main need to consolidate an integral European academia-industry R&D ecosystem.
